Juno Pell Booking from February 2027

About

I’m Juno, a web and product designer working from a shared studio on the old harbour in Rotterdam.

Hello

I started out laying out a student newspaper and never really stopped thinking about where the eye lands first. These days that eye belongs to someone trying to book a barge berth or split an electricity bill, and my job is to make that take less thought.

I work in short loops: a rough sketch by the end of week one, something clickable by week two, and real people trying it before anything gets polished. I hand off with annotated files and a call with whoever is building it, because a design that survives handoff is the only kind that counts.

Outside client work I run a monthly critique night for junior designers in a bar near the Witte de Withstraat. Bring a screen, get honest notes, the first round is on me.

  • Based in Rotterdam, works across Europe
  • Previously at a 40-person agency and a fintech startup

So far

  1. 2026

Started a second critique night, this time online, for designers outside the Randstad.

  2. 2022 to now

Freelance. Around twenty-five projects for startups, local businesses, clubs and one inland port.

  3. 2020 to 2022

Senior product designer at a payments startup in Amsterdam. Designed onboarding and the merchant dashboard, and learned how much a single confusing word costs at scale.

  4. 2017 to 2020

Designer at a 40-person digital agency. Websites for museums, housing corporations and a lot of municipalities.

  5. 2013 to 2017

Graphic design degree at an art academy in Rotterdam. Art director of the student newspaper for three years.

How I work

Small and direct

You work with me, not an account manager. I take on at most two projects at a time, so I can reply the same day and actually remember your last message.

Research is not a phase

I talk to the people who will use the thing at the start, test with them in the middle, and watch them use it at the end. It doesn’t need a big budget: five conversations change almost every project.

Words first

I write the headings, buttons and error messages before I draw the boxes around them. If the words don’t make sense, no layout will save them.

Handoff is part of the job

Files are organised, components are named the way your developers name them, and every non-obvious decision has a note. I wrote about this in Annotate the handoff, not the mockup.

Critique night

On the first Thursday of the month, from 19:30, a table at the back of a bar off the Witte de Withstraat. Usually ten to fifteen designers, mostly in their first three years. Each person gets ten minutes on one screen. No portfolios, no pitching, no recording.

The next one is on Thursday 5 November 2026. Write to critique@ddtxv.xyz and I’ll send you the address.
